What do you think? Is this amount of Internet use acceptable? Are students being asked to do too much work on the computer? 20 points for a well thought-out opinion of 5 sentences emailed to ms.kingsbury@verizon.net or posted in the COMMENTS section here....
I think that early exposure to technology is a good thing as more teachers require some type of internet source. As the world turns more toward technology and labor saving device to improve the quality of life, traditional forms of doing things such as research will eventually become obsolete. I think this is a good way of preparing students for future projects in their careers or just everyday life.
ReplyDeleteThe only issue i see with assigning internet related homework is that there are still students without reliable internet access and these types of assignments hurt them most.
internet in the class room...
ReplyDeleteI think that using the internet in the class room is a good idea and is easier for some students. Using the internet for work is a good way for students to develop technical skills and good study habits. Researching assignments are easier and get done faster if you use the internet. Using internet in the classroom is a good way to get the people of tomorrow ready for the technology age that is among us. i think that right now there may be just a little to many internet assignments to do at home, because not every student has access to computers outside of school. We are on the right track to success, but right now maybe we can take it slow.
Yes,I think this is a great Idea just don't let students become dependent on technology. For example, spelling is a major part of english. We learn different words when we are young and there meaning. If students spend to much time on computers we will just look up the word and definition on the internet. Instead of taking the time to comprehend it.This will work though if we use it in the right way.
ReplyDeleteAlthough students are getting work done when using the computer i still believe that the computer is being used a little to much. WHat happened to experiments, reading paper, and writing. I am not complaining to much about it though because sometimes i would rather type then write. One of the only issues that I have with constant use of the computer is the longterm affect that it will have on our sight and other body functions. Will we become couch potatoes who are incapable of getting up to get a drink or bite to eat. will the percentage of people who are overweight increase because of this. The answer in my opinion is most likely because if you are constintly sitting and not excercising then those extra ponds will start to get bigger and bigger.
ReplyDeletei think in some ways it is good and in some ways it is bad.
ReplyDeletestudents in grades lower than a middle school grade level should not have that much access to such technology. Now days everyone relies on a computer or other computer like instraments inorder to do there work for them. before our generation, our parents did not have computers to do research. They had to actually go to lybraries inorder to find information. When a teacher gives a project the first thing a child will do is go to the internet as there first resorce. the internet is a reliable sorce of steady information and soon lybraries will not be needed.
on the other hand this is a good thing because now we have a better way or acessing the information we need. doing homwework on a computer is not a bad thing because all the information is there it is just the matter of looking
i think it is good for the future but then again its not always reliable. i remember doing a essay for someone and then once i was done i sent it but then when i went back to look over it and make sure it sent it went missing and everything was just gone. but the down falls to that is one may not have a computer, or internet acess. or the internet could go out. another flaw is it contradits the other blog that students are spending too much time on the computer. so over all its not a good idea in my opinion
ReplyDeleteIn this age of technology, I believe it is recommended that teachers take advantage of it. I find it difficult to take the time and sit down to write an essay, while I could do the same essay at a faster pace while at the computer. The only problem is that with the availability of Internet, some students may fall off task because of he numerous distractions that come along. Also some students aren't fortunate enough to have a computer. I think it's a good idea, but it still has its flaws. Everyone can't afford a computer, but most (if not all) can afford a simple pencil and paper.
ReplyDeleteActually this is a good idea if the kids are exposed to technology earlier they have a better understanding of it. At least they won't wind up like me, it took me 3 weeks to figure out how to make a g-mail account. But this is good because when students go to college most of the teachers want them to do their work on line. Ms. Kings u said it your self that when you was working for penn that the guy would send you messages at 2 in the morning asking you to do research. I also notice the shout out they gave you "42% of students are producing or creating their own online videos as part of their schoolwork" thats you. Look Ms. King your making history
ReplyDeleteI think the use of internet in classroom is good because it helps student build techinal skills and perpare them for colllege. plus were living in a world that is controlled by technology more and more each day. so to me its helping students like me prepare for the future. The only promblem this might cause is if a child doesn't have access to the internet at home, which sholudn't be a promblem because now a days there are many diffferent places a people can go to to use the internet. like the libary, afterschool programms and etc.
