After this class, students will be able to:
1. apply their understanding of occasions for argument to personal writing.
2. generate main points and details from non-fiction reading.
3. manage time to complete extended independent reading.
Agenda:
1. Warm-Up (extended edition): Students will turn in the following writing assignment in which they demonstrate their understanding of occasions for argument (past, present, future):
Pretend that you are writing a letter to your present self from your future  self. Tell your present self what life will be like in the future. Explain how  you got to be there, and make an argument to your present self to follow the  advice that you are giving. Talk about a serious issue which doesn't effect your  present self but which will effect your future self. Talk about your love life in  the future, and make an argument to your present self to follow your  advice.  Length - 1 page
2. Students will generate notes on the board outlining the main points and details from their homework (reading from Everything's An Argument: Kinds of Arguments).  Students will write about: Arguments of Fact, Definition, Evaluation, and Proposal.
HOMEWORK: Students will continue to read from Everything's An Argument: Pages 32 - 37 (Audiences for Argument) and pages 38 - 42 (Appealing to Audiences) and take notes.
