Extra Credit Opportunity: Internet Advocacy For Murderers

Please read this article from the Philly Daily News about a killer who is using the internet to gain support and sympathy for his case:

What do you think? Should criminals be allowed to use the internet to get support? For 20 points extra credit, please post a well thought-out opinion of 5 sentences in the COMMENTS section below or email your opinion to ms.kingsbury@verizon.net.

  1. I think that it is fair for them to use the internet to tell people how they feel. I feel bad for the families who have lost a love one I really do. But what about the people who are in prison and on death row that really are innocent and what to send a message out to everyone. It hurts when you just cant make rules for the good but the bad goes by them too. But i believe that it should be allowed. That is what America is made of freedom of speech.

  2. i think people who are in jail for serious crimes, such as murder should not be allowed to do anything including using the internet or any other thing, that allows them to interact with the outer world. because thats not fair to the family and friends of the people that they murder. they took away someone life so their life shouldf be tooken away also. so if their given the use of internet to associate with others, then its like their life was never really tooken away.

  4. It is AMERICA they are serving their time. Why shouldn't they be able to use the internet. They have every thing else in their good food, education, etc why stop now. In the future they gonna have plasmas and and king beds.who knows they might upgrade from 8*9 to 9*10 haha. To be honest thing will always seem unfair but that's life. there are people on the outside are worse off then the people in jail. What can you do, i mean if you wanna fight it go ahead but what difference will it really make in the END!

  5. I also agree with Madame CJ, people who are in prison has the same right to say what they please as well as people on the streets. There is nothing wrong with letting America know how you feel. If I had death row, I would make sure everybody know how i feel

  6. I believe that prisoners should retain some rights, such as the use of the internet. Like the article said, they are entitled to freedom of speech and instead of the ancient art of letters, they can access quicker forms of communication like email or blogs. As long the prisoner isn't hurting anyone or committing any crimes then it should be fine. What more can the man ask for? He's in prison, doing his time, why can't he get a little peace of mind with the internet? It might be a good idea to limit their internet privileges.

  7. i believe that because everyone has the right to use the internet, they should be allowed to do so. but because they are convicted criminals i think they should be monitored. the internet is a good way for the people who love them to stay in contact, which is a plus. but they could also use it to organize mischief, which is a negative. also if the person is innocent even one supporter could help. it only takes one to prove your innocence.

  8. I do think that they should be allowed to use the internet but be monitored while they at it. I mean u don't want another family member doing the same crap that they did. But besides the fact that they did wrong, and they are serving their time for it, they shouldn't be kept away from the outside world, most importantly their family/friends.
