Wednesday, December 2, 2009 (AP Lit: Period 3)

Objectives:
After this class, students will be able to:
1. create alternative plots for a story.
2. examine race, class, and gender in literature.
3. manage classtime to meet deadlines.

Agenda:
1. Students will answer the following questions in preparation for tomorrow's whole class discussion on the Kite Runner:
a. What if Hassan was a girl? How would that change the story, and particularly this scene?
b. What if Hassan was Amir's equal? How would that change the dynamic?
c. Considering the violence, is this book appropriate for high school? If no, why not?
If yes, what is your rationale?
d. What if the roles were reversed and Amir was violated instead of Hassan?
e. What if Amir never saw it happen?
f. What if Amir would have stood up for Hassan?

2.  Students should finish their 5 Google Lit Trips questions (self-selected from Chapters 1-9 on the Kite Runner Google Lit Trips website).

3. Students who have not yet completed their photo freewrite and posted it to http://ohskiterunner.wikispaces.com should do so ASAP.

Homework: Students should continue to read The Kite Runner and be prepared for a quote quiz on Thursday or Friday.
