After this week of class, students will be able to:
1. create an academic wiki.
2. provide feedback to improve classroom instruction.
3. organize personal writing into an electronic format.
4. write for a specific audience and purpose, paying attention to grammatical details and diction.
5. analyze images related to an academic research topic.
6. create citations.
Agenda:
This week students in AP English will create and begin to complete various components of their on-line portfolio for the Graduation (Senior) Project. This week's work is worth a total of 300 points. The following tasks must be completed by week's end (and definitely no later than Sunday, October 18, 2009) in order to receive full credit - this will count as project grade - MAJOR POINTS TOWARDS YOUR GRADE!:
1. Visit the Wikispaces OHS Senior Project Page at http://ohsseniorproject.wikispaces.com. Read the introduction page. Click on the DISCUSSION TAB and let Ms. Kingsbury know what you think of doing your entire Senior Project on-line. Score 10 points for 5 sentences.
2. Sign up for a WIKI account at http://wikispaces.com. Create a wiki - call it firstnamelastnameSP.wikispaces.com.
Example: sarajohnsonSP.wikispaces.com
Send an email to Ms. Kingsbury at ms.kingsbury@verizon.net letting me know that you have created your Senior Project Wiki. Copy and paste your wiki link into an email, and send it along to Ms. Kingsbury. Score 50 points.
3. Add NEW PAGES to your wiki so that your overall on-line portfolio structure is set up and ready to go. You need to have the following pages (yes, you must include the numbers in order for your portfolio to be in a logical order):
1. Mission Statement
2. Career Goals Essay
3. Transcript Assessment
4. Cover Letter
5. Resume
6. Thank You Letter
7. Research Proposal & Rationale
8. RESEARCH PAPER
9. Works Cited Page (Bibliography)
College Essay
Creative Writing (Personal Narrative)
Research Paper Images
Research Paper PowerPoint Presentation
2. Career Goals Essay
3. Transcript Assessment
4. Cover Letter
5. Resume
6. Thank You Letter
7. Research Proposal & Rationale
8. RESEARCH PAPER
9. Works Cited Page (Bibliography)
College Essay
Creative Writing (Personal Narrative)
Research Paper Images
Research Paper PowerPoint Presentation
Score 50 points for setting up your pages.
4. Begin to fill your pages in. You can do this one of two ways:
a. Type in a Word document, and then copy and paste your stuff into the appropriate page (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED).
B. Type directly into the wiki. This is recommended ONLY if you have exceptional skills, as there appears to be no spell-check on the wiki, but I could be wrong. Let us know if you find it.
The pages you must have typed and completed by this week are: Mission Statement, Career Goals Essay, College Essay, Resume, Cover Letter, Thank You Letter, and Research Proposal (With Plagiarism Contract). Score 25 points for each typed assignment.
5. Finally, upload 3 images to your Research Paper Images Page. Try to figure it out yourself. If you get stuck, ask Ms.Kingsbury. Include a caption under each picture with a description of the picture and the link of the website where you found it. Score 20 points.
If you are a quick typist, this will be an easy assignment. If not, you will need to do some of this week's work at home. By the end of this week, you should have completed about 70% of the Senior Project. Awesome, right :)
Homework: Depends on your skills....
