Monday, September 14, 2009 (Period 3: AP LIT)

Objectives:
After this class, students will be able to:
a. distinguish between the terms fate and destiny in their lives and in literature.
b. establish a time management system for reading and writing.
c. take detailed notes on nonfiction/informational writing.

Agenda:
1. Warm-Up:  Students should answer the following question in their notebooks:  Do you believe in fate (the path of your life is already determined) or free will (you choose your own destiny) or a combination of both? Write 5 lines in which you explain your choice. Ms. Kingsbury will solicit answers from the class.

2. Distribute Unit Sheet for Oedipus and unit entitled "An Exploration of Family Dysfunction."  Review objectives and go over due dates for each activity and readings.

3. Distribute books and have students sign for them.

4. Note-taking Instruction:  Ms. Kingsbury will explain to students how to take notes on the first pages of reading from Oedipus.

Homework:  Students will read pages 9-12 (Part II) and 23-24 (Theban Legend) from Oedipus and take notes.
