Objectives:
After this class, students will be able to:
a. manage time to meet deadlines.
b. analyze tone, word choice, imagery, syntax, and theme in a poem.
c. make personal connections to poetry.
Agenda:
1. Warm-Up: Students should answer the following questions in their notebooks:
a. How long did it take you to complete the poetry TWIST homework?
b. Have you started writing your Oedipus paper due on September 30? If so, how is it going? If not, why not?
c. We are going to start the Senior Project next week. What do you know about the SP? What are your concerns?
2. Students were asked to TWIST two poems for homework. Today, we will look closer at the poem entitled CHESS. Students will complete the following steps in pairs:
a. With your partner, look over your homework poems. Swap papers, and make comments on your partner’s comments.
b. Then, on your sheet of paper, complete the chart you see on the board. (Chart will contain the following: We agreed on... We disagreed on... We want to know more about.... Overall, the poem makes us feel...)
c. Turn in poems and chart for credit.
HOMEWORK: Oedipus papers (due 9/30) and summer reading assignments (due 10/1)!
