Objectives:
After this class, students will be able to:
1. read and listen to classical Greek drama.
2. discuss issues related to theme.
3. analyze characterization and make predictions.

Agenda:
1. Warm-Up: In their notebooks, students will answer the following questions: Is the leader of a city/state/country ALWAYS the best person to go to when there are problems affecting the people? Why or why not? 2-3 sentences Ms. Kingsbury will solicit answers from the students.

2. Questions for discussion: Students should write the answers to these questions in their notebooks and then be prepared to share and discuss:
a. Do you believe in fate (the path of your life is already determined) or free will (you choose your own destiny) or a combination of both? Explain your choice.
b. At this point in the play, what word would you use to describe Oedipus' character - arrogant, compassionate, indifferent, proud, naive, or childish? Explain why you choose this word, and provide a quote to support your choice.

3. We will continue to read the play.

Homework: Students will write the answers to the following questions in their notebooks:
a. Tiresias is a blind prophet. How is it possible for a blind man to see?
b. Is Oedipus' anger at Tiresias justified? Why or why not?
c. At the end of this episodia between Oedipus and Tiresias, what is the concern of the Chorus (page 1313)?
