Objectives:
After this class, students will be able to:
1. Self-evaluate their writing skills.
2. Take a diagnostic writing test based on the AP English Lit exam.
3. Receive their textbook.
Agenda:
1. Warm-Up: Students should answer the following questions on an index card: When you self-evaluate your writing skills, how do you fare? On a scale of 1-10, ten being the best, one being the worst, how do you rate your writing? What are your strengths? What are your weaknesses? What part of your writing abilities and skills would you like to work on this year? Ms. Kingsbury will solicit answers from students and collect the cards for analysis.
2. Diagnostic Test Part Two: Yesterday, students took a multiple choice test based on the AP English Lit exam. Today, they will take the writing portion of the diagnostic exam. Allotted time: 40 minutes. Again, they will decide, as a group, how to complete this task. Each student MUST write his/her own essay. Students will write their essays in their notebooks. They should underline, highlight, annotate, as needed, as well as write down any unfamiliar words into their notebooks (minimum 5 words). Considering the length of this activity, we will address the completed essays tomorrow.
